For Piano Solo
Thirty years ago, three nations stood in a chain to show the world that they were united in their desire for peace and freedom. Thirty years later, a fourth connected to that legacy — a desperate cry for the dark history not to repeat itself.
One chain connects all who strive for the same ideals. lin6-2 was initially conceived on 23 August 2023, in Town Hall Square, Vilnius, and subsequently written for a composition workshop with Lauryna Šablevičiūtė. It receives its world premiere this summer night, in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the Hong Kong Way.
The title draws references to multiple words: lin6-2 (where – denotes a tone change) is the Cantonese word for chain; 6-2 is also 4, revealing that the structure of the piece draws inspiration from Witold Lutosławski’s Chain I, II and III; and lin4 is the Cantonese word for ‘to connect’.
